What, you expect me to know what's going on with this team?

Once again, the Mets organizational incompetence has reared its ugly head and come into full view. Carlos Beltran had knee surgery the other day, and didn’t tell the Mets about it. Or he told them about it but they did not remember.  Or was it that they knew about it, but hadn’t approved it? Or did they approve it, but only if  he followed protocol? Or he had the surgery but didn’t follow protocol so they didn’t approve it? Obviously, the Mets approved the surgery, but they did not say it was ok. Wow. [click to continue…]

McGwire Doesn’t Quite Come Clean

Mark McGwire admitted today that he used steroids throughout the 1990’s. Now there’s a shocker sure to stun the world eh?

During the whole McGwire/Sammy Sosa HR chase, my father once commented that Mark McGwire’s forearms looked like Popeye’s arms and that he looked abnormally like a cartoon character. “That’s not natural”, dad said, just as we watched McGwire hit his 50th home run of that season. I agreed with my father, but didn’t really think much about it until both McGwire and Sosa each passed the 60 home run mark just weeks later…I knew then for certain what my father had already figured out; That both of them were on performance enhancing drugs.

They both looked like cartoon characters back then, but that wasn’t what convinced me McGwire and Sosa were both cheating. What actually did convince me was the fact that not one, but two players were en route to break Roger Maris’ HR record during the same season. One player I could have understood without suspicion, but two? Impossible. [click to continue…]
